Hanningfield Newfoundlands - The Recent Years

If you haven't looked at the early days (through to 2009) of Hanningfield, you can click here for a peek back at our history.

2010

The year started well with our two youngsters Mona and Harvey both gaining their Junior Warrant titles. Reggie carried on the success that he had in 2009 by being crowned overall winner and top junior dog in the UK at the prestigious Kennel Gazette Junior Warrant finals at Crufts. He has picked up some early CC’s at WELKS and Three Counties where he went Working Group 2. Reggie also qualified for the East Anglian Supermatch finals where won out over the top dogs of all breeds in the region and was crowned Top Dog 2010.

Hanningfield Billie Jean at Paradiso gained her first CC from the puppy class at the tender age of 9 months and her half sister Hanningfield Blue Moon at Paradeso won three CC’s over a six week period to earn her UK Champion title becoming our sixth UK Champion.

Shortly afterwards our seventh Champion was 'made-up', Hanningfield Mona Lisa JW gained her three CC’s at Wales, Driffield and Midland Counties.

Reggie continued through 2010 gaining a total of five CCs and the year came to a close with the great news that we had again been awarded Top Newfoundland Breeders in the UK and Lola Hanningfield Evening Start had again been crowned Top Brood bitch.

A look back at 2011

2011 was another successful year for Hanningfield, many of our dogs and bitches achieved super results in the show ring with one new Champion and multiple CC winners. Hanningfield were the TOP UK NEWFOUNDLAND BREEDERS FOR 2011 in the OurDogs/Arden Grange rankings, the third year running we have achieved this distinction.

Among the many memorable highlights ...

  • Logan (Hanningfield Sequoia) won his third CC and Champion title in April
  • Ch. Hanningfield Touch Of Magic, JW ShCM (Reggie) was a huge presence for us in the ring - he won a further 11 CCs through the year and made a successful debut in European show rings.
  • Ruby (Hanningfield Princess Leia) won her first CC from the Veteran class at Manchester and then continued through the year proving see is multi-talented with multiple Section E Water Test passes (the UK's highest level). She was the winner of the competitive Advanced Section Water Trials at Ragley and finished the year as Top Working Newfoundland. Not only that, Ruby made her national TV debut in the series 'Life's Too Short' with Ricky Gervais and Warrick Davies. Congratulations to Graham and Jan, her owners and trainers.
  • Our first litter of White & Blacks was born, mum was Threeponds Magical Mystery Tour for Hanningfield (Abbey) our import from the USA. We kept a dog, Hanningfield Black Ice (Dexter), and a bitch Lexie, both of whom show great promise and made super starts to their show careers - Dexter was Best Puppy in Show at the Newfoundland Club Open Show in November.
  • In December Am. Ch., Multi Ch. Numa's Cest La View Seabrook came to stay with us for a while and settled in wonderfully well.

2012 to date

Dexter and Lexie continued their show careers in 2012 at The Newfoundland Club Open show where they both won their respective puppy classes, Dexter went on to win Best Puppy in Show.

Crufts was a very enjoyable day, Dexter won the Junior Dog class at the tender age of 12 months and went on to be Best Puppy in Breed. Also in March, Ch. Hanningfield Mona Lisa JW (Mona) was Best of Breed at Retford Canine Society and collected the final point she required to add a Show Certificate Of Merit to her titles.

In April, at his first show, our guest Am. Ch., Multi Ch. Numa's Cest La Vie Seabrook (Boston) was awarded the Reserve Challenge Certificate.

The future ...

Judging

Steve has judged several breeds in the Working and Pastoral groups and he is working to gain the experience and knowledge required to award Challenge Certificates in his chosen breeds. Steve judged in the USA for the Newfoundland Club of New England and is currently on the B list of Judges with the Newfoundland Club of Great Britain and has recently met the criteria to be considered to award Challenge Certificates in Newfoundlands.

Breeding

Boston
Boston - Am. Ch. Numa's Cest La Vie Seabrook

Over the years we have developed very good relationships with several top US kennels; Mooncusser, Seabrook, Goldcoast, Mastway, Pouch Cove, to name but a few. Those relationships are as strong as ever and will continue to play a part in the future development of the Hanningfield kennel.

Coming out of our trans-atlantic relationships, we have Kathy Griffin and Peggy Helming's Boston staying with us for a while and we are thrilled to have been able add his quality and bloodlines to our breeding.

We have a couple of litters due this year and have high hopes for the next generation of Hanningfields.

Showing

2012 is proving to be another exciting year for Hanningfield with Ch. Hanningfield Touch Of Magic, JW ShCM (Reggie) adding to his CC tally, Ch. Hanningfield Mona Lisa (Mona) adding to her titles a Show Certificate of Merit and Boston making his first appearance in the UK show ring and being awarded a Reserve Challenge Certificate.

We've been fortunate to have had some wonderful successes with Hanningfield dogs in the show ring in the UK and in America and we hope to continue to produce and exhibit sound, quality Newfoundlands to promote this wonderful breed.
