We acquired our first Newfoundland in 1992. A male from Paddy & Gordon at Merrybear, like so many we soon succumbed to a second, another male but this time a brown sired by one of my all time favourite dogs CH. Merrybear Luigi.
Hanningfield Newfoundlands did not really get started until 1997 when we imported a dog and a bitch from the renowned kennel of Suzanne Jones (Mooncusser) based in the USA.
Sue took on the challenge to breed something that she would be happy to send us. We were not disappointed. Boston & Marsha came to us at six months of age, they then had to undergo a further six months of quarantine.
Marsha was bred to UK CH. Mayoss Booker and the litter produced real quality. We kept the only bitch from the litter Georgia and our friends Sue & Dave had the pick male Denver who to date has had a very successful show career, Denver became our first UK Champion.
We have developed very good relationships with several top US kennels Mooncusser, Seabrook, Goldcoast, Mastway, Pouch Cove, to name but a few relationships that are still as strong as ever.
We at Hanningfield hold dear the values of breeding sound temperament and structure, we evaluate all the dogs in our breeding programme Hips, Hearts, Elbows and Cystinurea, are all screened.
Steve has judged several breeds in the working and pastoral groups he is currently on the B list of the Newfoundland Club of GB.
